Bunurong Environment Centre

Welcome to the Bunurong Environment Centre

PLEASE NOTE: The Centre is closed during August 2023.

The Environment Centre is on the corner of Ramsey Boulevard and The Esplanade, Inverloch (see here for a map). It is open 10 am to 4 pm every day. During the December-January school holidays it is open from 10 am to 5 pm every day. Email shop@sgcs.org.au and phone 03 5674 3738.

The Bunurong Environment Centre provides free leaflets on local attractions and interests. It sells a great collection of books and gifts for children and adults, and houses a historic Shell Museum, as well as a Discovery Room full of dinosaur fossils and hands-on play tables, while just outside you can measure your wingspan with the famous Albatross Seat.


The Shop
The Book and Gift Shop sells a great collection of books for children and adults, science kits, toys, art, environmentally friendly soaps, diaries, cards, backpacks, bags, ornaments and more.

The Discovery Room
The Discovery Room is a welcoming space for learning more about our local plants, animals and dinosaurs, with exhibits and touch-tables. It is also available for hire for events, meetings and presentations.

The Shell Museum
The Shell Museum holds one of the world's best collections of shells, with over 6,000 specimens of Australian and local shells, shell toyhouses, giant crabs, corals, sharks' jaws and more. Entry is $2 per person, children under 5 are free.

Leaflets
The Environment Centre provides a range of free leaflets on local attractions and interests. You can also download many of our publications and print them out yourself.

Children's Activities
You can download a large range of games and puzzle sheets, as well as a free book on environmental activities around Inverloch, with identification charts, maps, nature trails and information for parents.

Bush Pantry
Wattle seed icecream, anyone? Bracken ointment? A cumbungi bag? Terri Allen describes some local plants that were used by Indigenous people for food, fibre and medicine.
